SteamPink Lady

Hello Steampunk fans! I am happy to be here with the second half of our inspiration for this month at SanDee and amelie's Steampunk Challenges. Since it is so close to Valentine's the way, Happy Valentine's Day!...I was inspired to work in chocolate and pink.

Boozybear has these amazing chipboard pieces I used to make my Victorian "lady." Why not turn the dress form into the outfit and add wings? After all in the alternate universe of steampunk, much is forgiven. And wouldn't you love some chocolates from Paris? Just use your imagination!

I started out using Andy Skinner's French Elements stencil with the new DecoArt Americana Premium Texture Medium and added the design to the giant board tag. What I learned was that this can also act as a resist.

Starting with a dark under layer of Burnt Umber.

Adding some richness with Burnt Sienna and Yellow Oxide. I wiped some off with a baby wipe.

Final dip of the chocolate into a layer of Quinacridone Gold, Burnt Sienna, and Quinacridone Magenta.

I covered the chipboard pieces with White Gesso first.

Next, I worked on the dress form stand and gears, and painted them with Burnt Umber and Quinacridone Gold.

Time to head into the Pink! I don't know about you, but here it's been a long, dark, snowy winter and I find myself reaching for bright colors to balance that. I thought bright pinks would be a fun contrast to the chocolate.

After the first layer of pinks dried, I dabbed on Primary Magenta, then wiped it back with a baby wipe.

Time to add some copper to the gears, stand, and giant tag. I just rub it on with my finger.

Next, I had fun dressing my lady with some black string netting, flowers, feathers, and of course, every Victorian lady needs some bling! How about that giant flower on the bustle - would you wear that?

Details, details, details...

  2. Yes that's my opinion too, Steampunk lives from the creative imagination without fixed rules. It's a wonderful inspiring tag with bright colors, and just the right thing to improve the mood on gray, gloomy days! Hugs Kerstin xx

  3. Great combination. Love the idea. So Amazing. Hugs Alexa
